What are the benefits of a near-peer mentoring experience?

According to a study, done by researchers of the Department of Science Education and Strategic Communications at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, the results show that near-peer mentoring enhances research skills and gives people experiences and confidence they otherwise would not have had an opportunity to develop. Allowing students the experience to be both learners and mentors gives them a perspective they could achieve in no other way. As the results of this study have shown, this opportunity encourages people into long-term engagement as professionals and mentors.
